Glad Yuletidings everyone, it's finally here. The day we have all (maybe not all but certainly a majority) been waiting for. The day when we forget all our issues and grievances with each other and get along. The cynic in me would like to question why humanity needs a special day in order to unite. However I usher him out the living room for at least today. Pretty sure that makes me both a miserable person and a hypocrite not sure which is worse.
Anyway yes it's Christmas and I truly wish everyone an amazing day. Even if it is only a day I hope you get what you want even if it's just a break. If you don't celebrate Christmas well then I wish you a Merry day in general and hope you have a great time.
So it's the last day of my advent challenge what could I possibly be reviewing? Well I still have a bag full of Christmas themed stuff so the possibilities are vast and I'll be doing festive products for a while I fear. But not today, no festive sweets will be reviewed. Today I will review Christmas Lunch after all what else would be appropriate?
Now this won't be a specific review of any one lunch I've had, firstly as every lunch is a massive effort on whomever is cooking and they always do an amazing job. Secondly the last lunch I had wasn't in too recent memory and as of writing I haven't had this years. So instead I will review the idea of Christmas Lunch in general!
I was going to go through traditional items you would find on your plate and talk about them, but that doesn't seem like such a cool plan now. So instead I'll wing it and type as I think. This is probably not a great idea but lets see what happens! Every meal consists of those traditional staples, love o hate the you've got to have them. That's especially true of the polarizing Parsnips and Sprouts. Why these two veg separate us as a species baffles me, it's as bad as the marmite vs vegimite vs neither argument. Yet even the most ardent of haters will on this special occasion humor the idea of eating them. Even if it is just to chew them then spit them out. Myself I love them both although a few years ago I hated them.
There always meat unless your a vegetarian, the old traditional meat was of course Goose, at one point because it was a cheap and plentiful bird so even poor families had a special meat. Ironically now it is a bird with the highest price an barely anyone has it. To me it has to be turkey although not many others agree. Usually the go to meat now is either chicken or pork.
The highlight for many is the infamous "pigs in blankets" a weird combination of bacon wrapped around sausage (so meat with more meat) that people go crazy for. Why do we only feel like we can eat these at Christmas yet mourn their passing so much. Surely if we did away with their time constrants we would all be happier as a species. A quick shout out now for the potatoes who should be roasted till they re burnt to a near crisp but not blackened.
But what makes Christmas lunch really special is sharing it with family and friends. Yes by the end of the night you'll be sick of them (and indeed divorce rates are highest around January as people realize they can't stand each other in large doses), but for a few hours we sit round a table and talk. We talk without the distractions we often have like TV or walls. We joke, we share stories, we pull a few crackers and wear the silly hats and generally enjoy each others company. However we must spare a thought for those who don't have the opportunity of friends and family, those alone or without Christmas. We should remember how lucky we are even if it's just for today and tomorrow.
Not wanting to end on a sombre thought I want to wish you all a Merry Christmas. Thank You for reading my post today and any other day you may have. It means a lot to me that you would take time out of your day for me. I have a big announcement coming in a week on New Years day about the future of this blog. Until then I'l keep posting when I can and hopefully get through all my festive items finally.
Overall have a great day and hope the build up was worth the pay off.

Late night snacking!
You may have noticed yesterdays post was rather short and a bit late. Once again don't get ahead of yourself and think I have some kind of hectic social life, I wish I did. No the post was slightly postponed due to having to travel halfway down the country. Despite asserting they provide a good (one that comes at a good price) it wasn't until I got home until I could post.
Was it worth it? In one way yes in another no, I am glad to be in my hometown for the holidays but considering I left my special someone behind I'm not. Still mustn't dwell on down thoughts, I had a great time visiting her and her family. A quick Christmas week before Christmas week, who doesn't want to celebrate the day twice? I got to get some last minute late night shopping done in Norwich too. Including getting to go to castle Mall a shopping center built beneath a friggin castle! Of course I took the chance to purchase many sweet things for myself and the blog. The highlight of such was a look in at Macaroons and more where I found their mince pie flavour.
But before we get to that lets look at some bread. No don't worry I haven't gone mad again and purchased something that may be savory and worse still possibly healthy. No, don't be foolish dear reader of course this isn't going to be good for me. Well I could argue that whilst it may not be good health wise it is beneficial for my well being. This bread is Morrison's Rudolph bread, a orange brioche type bread with chocolate chips baked in for love. The result a lovely breakfast feeling bread with a festive chocolate orange taste. The bread isn't soft which is my only issue. Texture wise its more like a giant hot cross bun, but reindeer shape. Still it is nice and goes lovely slightly toasted and smothered in butter.
Then we get to the climax of today's tale the aforementioned Macaron (the French kind not the coconut monstrosity). Specifically one made by Tim, the guy who won Master chef and started a chain of biscuit shops, so much respect. I had been in last time I was in Norwich at which time I was a Macaron virgin, that soon changed with a salted caramel offering and since I have been a bit obsessed! Unfortunately I did start with the best and since nothing has quite lived up to it. So when I saw they had a festive edition in wild horses or rather donkeys (beach donkeys are provided on tap in Gt Yarmouth!) couldn't keep me away.
Sadly it was not a happy tasting as once again it paled in comparison to my first time. The quality was still there, the top and bottom shell is crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside. The paste in the middle melts wonderfully releasing the flavour and generally it was amazing as biscuits go. It didn't quite taste of mince pie to me, the almond flavour over powered all other flavour somewhat. But seen as how I love the taste of almonds I can't exactly complain. Have no fear though I also purchased my one and only, my muse, my obsession, my salted caramel. Which lived up once again to all my needs and more. With a beautifully sweet caramel and subtly salty combination that takes you to sickly sweet before bringing you back down. A real treat and I was smitten once more.
Before I end there I want to mention something I found the other day that isn't quite so special. A super Mario Noel selection box, yeah you already know this isn't going to be good. But after seeing it I could hardly not purchase it just to revel in it's terribleness. And after all it does contain a whole NINE items (that's like one more than eight). You could just tell by the box this screamed cheap calendar chocolate. But I was wrong and whilst it doesn't taste of what you'd call quality it does taste pretty good. nice and milky and not overly sweetened. At the price it was being sold at nine items suddenly looks good. I feel rather bad for mocking it.
Overall it was a great mini holiday and all the goodies I gathered were pretty decent, I'm sorry Mario I misjudged you.. again!

Yo! Sushi coated Edame beans
Okay so I admit yesterdays review may have
been a bit lazy. For starters I didn't pay for it, then factor in the fact that
it concerned yet another ginger biscuit. If I'm not careful you guys and girls
might stop reading. Hell if I keep boring myself I might stop writing. What a travesty
for the world that would be right?
Anyway I thought I'd push the boat out
a bit and get out there. The boat n question landed somewhere on the oriental
shoreline it would seem judging by today's products. Added to this and to
really spice things up one of today's items is a savoury snacking item. Wasabi
peas to be precise (now go back re-read the spice it up comment and chuckle at
my genius.) The other item is a bag of coated Edema beans another snacking bag
but these are chocolate and yogurt coated and provide the usual sweetness to
my post.
![]() |
| They don't look like much but really pack a punch! |
So lets start with the savoury and talk about
your P's and Q's. For those out of the know wasabi is a Japanese mustard like
sauce, very hot and very spicy. Peas are small round vegetation that some
people say is better for you than sugar! I love hot products so was rather
excited hen I saw these for sale in my local cafe. Opening the bag I was struck
by a very pungent mustard aroma, a sure fire sign for a heatwave ahead.
I popped one on my tongue and allowed the
dusting to do its work. Wow are these spicy! With a definite taste of English
mustard not too much to be overpowering and cause the familiar problem of mustard
blowout leading to pain in the nasal cavities. The pea underneath is nicely roasted
its got a great crunch to it and enough flavour on its own to curb boredom. I
risked eating three at once and immediately regretted it. Too hot even for me
and the result was a rather painful sneezing fit.
To recover and recuperate we shall move on
to the sweet. These are roasted Edama beans coated in yogurt, milk chocolate
and dark chocolate. This on the base of it seems like a very odd concept. Whenever
I've seen Edama beans before they are at most in a salad coated in a soy
sauce. They are very nice but not really for the realms of dessertery.
![]() |
| All bases covered here |
First up the yoghurt coating, I let it melt
on my tongue as per usual. It tastes subtly sweet with a nice plain milky flavour.
Not to bad, may have worked better had it been coated in white chocolate. The
bean underneath does add to the combination well, it's surprising how nice the
combination is. There is a nice crunch and roasted flavour to these very
similar to the peas.
Next I try the milk chocolate coated beans,
I think these are going to be my favourite of the three. Allowing it to melt I
get a pleasant sweet milk chocolate taste that is cheap but quite nice
regardless. Not quite advent calender chocolate so no sickly sweetener
aftertaste. The bean underneath again gives a nice savoury kick to the occasion that
blends well. Lastly the dark chocolate, perhaps we should have the
"dark" in quotes as it tastes more sweet than bitter. Clearly not a
high cocoa content dark chocolate, rather just a slightly bitter plain
chocolate.
Overall these are all nice in their own
rights. Definitely the change from biscuits that I was aiming for too.

Pringles - festive varieties!
Tastes funny thing, apparently you can't account for it. That's what "they" say anyway, although, I'm not quite sure who "they" are. "They" do say a lot I must say and not all of it's so true or insightful. It seems on this occasion whats said is correct, especially in the case of today's review items. Thinking on it a bit more if we did all have the same taste, the world would be a dull place really.
Whats made me all philosophical and sage like? Well today's product, which seem to have a rather polarizing effect on people. Much like how Marmite often comes down to love it or hate it. These seem to be the same, if that is people make it past the first hurdle which is the concept of the items themselves. Those I offered them to often stared at me perplexed as though they needed a moment to figure out if what I was extending there way was real. They are believe me. These are the two limited edition flavoured Pringles available
this festive season. One is sweet cinnamon and the other is mint chocolate.
Sounds weird doesn't it? Why should it though, think about it. The only reason people immediately disregard these as Yack, is because we are used to savory Pringles. That is how I viewed it and was much more open minded to the experience than most who I prof erred them to. I tried them both and didn't think too hard as I ate them, through this I hope you'll see me as unbiased in my reviews. Check me out being all professional right?
First we will tackle the one most people had trouble with, the mint chocolate. Now don't get me wrong the idea is odd even to me. However remember that the flavour of mint choc has been a firm favorite in many other forms for years. I must admit that I don't like the combination myself but I didn't let that stop me. It's the crisp format that is throwing people but hey I just think that gives them a nice crisp crunch! So without too much hesitation I tried one. It was odd at first, I noticed a weird powdery dusting that you don't usually get, perhaps more seasoning has to be added to achieve the taste. Which is rather minty, and quite chocolatey too. The taste lingers for a bit before being replaced by the Pringle/crispy aftertaste of potato product. It certainly is odd thought not unpleasant to me.
The experience is a bit akin to having dessert quickly followed by savory. OK well not really but you get the idea. Both the initial minty chocolate and the potato taste are nice... just a bit odd when combined. I think a lot of people had trouble with this as out of about fifteen people brave enough to try these only me and one other liked them. Not good odds then. The second, sweet cinnamon, weirdly had more favourability. Not sure why people are more open about the flavour they just are.
I have to say of the two these are my favorite, the initial taste is much weaker but blends much better with the fried aftertaste. The combination here ends up tasting rather like a sugar and cinnamon doughnut. Really quite nice and much more moreish than the others. If anything more of the sweet cinnamon flavouring is needed as it's rather subtle and quickly replaced by the aftertaste.
Overall the mint choc is ok but the sweet cinnamon shines brighter. I think the real story is that people need to be more open minded about new tastes... Or as mad as me!

Poisonous Scorpions
Can you
guess what todays review is. Regular readers will know it’s likely to be
Halloween themed due to myself made Halloween challenge. Essentially I have
been grabbing any and all Halloween tat I can find to get into the festivities.
Really regular readers will have their suspicions that its product two of the
Marks and Spencer offer I took advantage of. Lastly all of you will be
expecting me to be reviewing something sugary and sweet right? Well you’re DEAD
wrong!
Yeah smart
guys your wrong. Today’s review isn’t a sweet at all in fact it’s a savoury
item. I hope I haven’t lost some of you there down to pure shock. Let’s face it
with my readership I can hardly afford to lose anyone. Anyway so yes todays
review is savoury but don’t worry it’s not healthy that would be a step too far
even for me wouldn’t it?
![]() |
| Scorpions are exactly the focal point weirdly. |
Today’s item
is a bag of poisonous scorpions. No not one of those bush tucker trial things
that come out whenever ‘I’m a Celebrity’ comes back on tele. (although I
wouldn’t mind eating bugs, just once to try. Twice, if I like it perhaps.) Nope
these are crisps in the shape of scorpions, hopefully the poisonous is just an
adjective and Mark’s aren’t trying to diminish the population. Although let’s
face it as a rather middle class store the way they would do it is through
their offers, so they can kill off the ‘riff raff’ like me.
These are
described as pickled onion flavoured corn snacks, so essentially monster munch.
I do love monster munch especially the pickled onion flavour so when these were
on offer I snatched them up with glee. It’s a bit of an odd one though why have
they decided that scorpions that are poisonous would best suit pickled onion.
Also why is the main picture a mummy instead of you know… a scorpion? Pedantic
picking aside let’s move on.
I burst open
the bag and I’m instantly met with a strong punch of onion, great sign. Let’s
face it if I can’t get this smell out my house in a week it’s a sign they have
done their job. Several of my housemates who I was going to offer them to
recoiled at the smell. Pickled onion is one of those love it, or hate it things
I guess. The smell is pretty damn pungent as one of my friends walked out the
room!
![]() |
| The photo doesn't show off how weirdly greenish these are! |
The
scorpions are quite nicely molded although they are worryingly pale. Monster
munch have a nice golden colour to them these are very pale almost like glow in
the dark paint. At the thought of this I got excited and thought Mark’s put
authentic scorpion detail in and they glow in the dark. Unfortunately when I
turned off the lights all I got was confusion as to where my snacks were.
I popped one
in my mouth and chewed it well. Unfortunately I was immediately disappointed.
These aren’t like Monster Munch; nope these are like the cheap crisps we get in
newsagents. I think they are called Space Invaders and cost about thirty pence.
These taste exactly like them but were about seven times the price. Yes its’ a
bigger bag but not seven times it. They taste rather stale and have nowhere
near enough potency for me.
I guess if
these things truly are poisonous they probably don’t have enough kick to knock
me out let alone kill me. They are crunchy, which is something I guess. It
indicates they aren’t past their best. No it suggests they never had a best in
the first place!
Overall
these are rather disappointing on pretty much every level apart from smell and
toxicity. I should have just gone for Monster Munch after all they are
practically Halloween themed all year round.
